Arts Award
Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents: it’s creative, valuable and accessible.
Arts Award can be achieved at five levels, four qualifications and an introductory award.
The DCEP support Arts Award in Doncaster. We run pilot programmes and develop local networks to test new ways of delivering Arts Award in different settings, and host training for Arts Award Advisers.
Whatever art form children and young people are interested in, whatever their ability, Arts Award is a great way of recognising creativity. Children and Young People can do an Arts Award in any area of the arts from fashion to poetry, rapping to dancing, sculpture to film. They can be the creator or performer of their own work, or develop their skills in essential roles like marketing or stage management.
Arts Award can fit around other commitments, and they can do their Arts Award wherever arts are happening with young people, including youth clubs, arts centres, schools, colleges, theatres, museums or community groups.
They’ll need to:
- take part in different arts activities
- be inspired by artists and arts organisations
- experience arts events
- share arts skills with others
- put together a portfolio or arts log in their own choice of format
And for Silver and Gold they’ll also get to:
- set themselves arts challenges
- organise projects
- research arts careers and the arts sector

Artsmark
Bringing learning to life through Arts and Culture
Artsmark is a creative quality standard that has been designed by schools for schools and is accredited by Arts Council England. It helps schools to deliver high-quality arts and cultural education, no matter what your starting point.
Artsmark can further your practice, and build your profile as a school leading in arts and cultural education. On your Artsmark journey, you’ll audit current strengths, identify priorities, articulate and align arts and cultural provision against your whole school improvement plan.
To help Doncaster schools on their Artsmark journey we have broken down the benefits of being an Artsmark provider and how your school can get involved.
What are the benefits?
- Culture and creativity increase pupils’ confidence, critical thinking, communication and literacy skills, improving attainment and bringing core subjects to life.
- Artsmark provides a clear framework for teachers to plan, develop and evaluate arts, culture and creativity across the curriculum.
- Artsmark will enrich, develop and strengthen your school’s arts and culture provision.
- Artsmark provides evidence of how a school meets its spiritual, moral, social and cultural requirements for Ofsted.
- Schools are supported throughout their Artsmark journey by local partners, and gain access to exceptional resources including IVE support sessions with educational and cultural expertise, a national network of arts specialists and some of our country’s most treasured cultural organisations.
- Schools are awarded Silver, Gold or Platinum, based on their achievements. Any school setting can apply.
- At the heart of Artsmark is seven quality principles that give structure and substance to a curriculum, and which can unlock the potential of children and young people and help them to develop their skills and talents.

How to apply?
The application is open to all schools in England, excluding early years only settings (0-5) unless they are attached to a school with Key Stage 1 pupils. The simple application form is accessible via www.artsmark.org.uk/registration
What does it cost?
The standard fee is £500. Schools with less than 100 pupils can access a reduced standard fee, the small school’s fee of £250. The application fee is explained in full atwww.artsmark.org.uk/artsmark-application-fee
How does it work?
Having registered, you will start to review your current provision against the Artsmark self-assessment tool, available on the Artsmark website. Once registered, each school sends two members of staff – an arts leader and a member of the senior management team – to attend a day-long session called an Artsmark Development Day, with a view to completing a Statement of Commitment shortly afterwards. The support sessions help you on your Artsmark journey. Having refined and delivered your planned programme of activity, you complete a Case Study and are awarded your Artsmark level either Silver, Gold or Platinum.

- LEADING THE WAY TO PLATINUM – Eldwick Primary School in Bingley lead a cluster of schools when they applied for their Artsmark Award. They joined together with 3 local primary, and 2 local secondary schools.
