On the 10 and 13 July, over 100 young people performed their work to audiences in our Second Space – all around the magical theme of potions!
Every group took a different angle on this theme, and some groups’ work was inspired by existing scripts. The groups’ performances were entitled the following:
Sparkles 1 - Can I Sit on Your Broom?
Sparkles 2 - Iggety Ziggety Zaggety BOOM!
Bright Lights 1 - The Dreams We Make
Bright Lights 2 - When Wrong Goes Right
Spotlights 1 - Zozimus (Where dreams are made)
Spotlights 2 - Transformative Tinctures
Twinkles - We Can Do Magic!
Little Lights 1 - A Witch’s Brew
Little Lights 2 - Round About the Cauldron Go!
Flood Lights - Elixor of Life
This was a lovely opportunity for our Youth Theatre to share their hard work in the intimate Second Space. It gave them a completely different theatre experience to being in the classroom and performing on the large Main Space, as they did last year with their performance entitled Time Casters.
Participants even created the set; they used recycling to make potion bottles and created their own recipes which answered the question “what brilliant things would make you happy?”.
They all used this same set in different and creative ways for their own groups’ performances.
“Each Cast Youth Theatre group used the Potions theme in very different ways. It was so wonderful to see the creative abilities of the young people on stage. One of my favourite moments was watching each group enter the theatre which was dressed in all their potion bottles and recipes; in fact, one young person said ‘it’s everything I dreamed of and more’ as it looked so magical. I am always blown away by our remarkable, funny, and brave young people.”
