Jozara Training with co-founder Sam Dunstan

After training for years in a creative profession, it can be tough to know that you are doing the right things with your finances, sales and administration. It can be difficult to feel in control of everything that happens “beyond the stage”: finances, admin, tax, budgets, the best ways to approach funding, talking about yourself, framing your offering… and the list goes on.  This series of personal development seminars, brought to you by Jozara and Cast, are designed to help you better manage your administration, finance and mental health so you can focus on being a successful artist.

Getting to Know Yourself

Tuesday 26 January, 5.30pm-7.30pm

This seminar gives you the tools to be honest, self-critical and confident when talking about yourself to clients and funders. By the end of this seminar, you will have identified your strengths and weaknesses and have a better understanding of where the opportunities for your own self-improvement can be found. In addition to this, the seminar covers:

  • Writing personal artistic statements
  • How you talk about your work and present yourself
  • Different methods of self-analysis that allow you to confront your challenges in a proactive manner

Company of One

Tuesday 2 February, 5.30pm-7.30pm

This seminar covers the reality of being a ‘company of one’. You will learn about balancing the different disciplines involved with running a business: performance, sales and administration. In addition to this, the seminar also covers:

  • The different ways to register a company in the UK and the pros and cons of each type option
  • Ways of framing your thinking about your work and balancing your time efficiently
  • Learning how to remain creative whilst still paying the bills

Money Money Money

Tuesday 9 February, 5.30pm-7.30pm

This seminar covers all things money and how you can organise your work and administration to make things like tax returns and funding applications easier. This seminar is broken down into two parts:

Self Employment & Tax

  • Completing a tax return
  • What you must declare to HMRC
  • What expenses you can claim to reduce your tax bill

Funding Application Budgets

  • Tips and techniques to employ when developing a budget
  • Budgeting pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Making a budget attractive to funders

To help you get the most out of these seminars, we want to know the issues you face regarding finance, administration, HMRC, working practices or getting started.

Once you have booked a seminar, send us your questions or comments to: and include the title of the seminar you’ve booked in the subject line.
