Specialists in immersive and interactive performances for children and families – HandMade theatre encourages children to sit amongst the twinkling trees and care for their very own interactive bird during the performance. The production is lovingly made for audiences aged between 4 and 9 with or without Special Educational Needs, delighting older and younger siblings, and parents too!
The Twelve Birds of Christmas is a unique production, developed especially for this holiday season, by HandMade Theatre’s talented team of artists, performers, makers and musicians. Adapted from their hugely popular, Flying The Nest, they have devised a show that teaches young audiences about birds in an engaging performance that excites and enthralls, getting everybody ready for Christmas time.
The Christmas Flying Machine was brilliantly received during HandMade Theatre’s last visit to Cast, with one enthused audience member saying; 'We wanted to congratulate the cast on a wonderful performance. To watch the sheer joy on our daughter's face as she joined the crew to rescue the missing christmas present was wonderful. This is the stuff christmas memories are made of!'
The collective is also keen to create work that permits different levels of interactivity and engagement, Suzy Gunn, Creative Producer at HandMade Theatre explains further, 'We love the way that people can engage as much or as little as they like. They can choose to linger at the back and watch from afar or they can fully immerse themselves in the experience by sitting in a nest.'
The founders of HandMade Theatre, performer Suzy Gunn and designer Amy Nicholson, have worked together for over ten years. In addition to creating interactive theatre they are also known as the SHRUG Ladies, a performance company that specialises in nonverbal, site specific and durational performances. Together they collaborate with a talented team of artists, musicians and performers to create original and interactive work under the banner of HandMade Theatre.
