Two Doncaster Premieres Nominated in UK Theatre Awards

06 Oct 2016

Two dance productions which premiered at Cast are nominated for ‘Achievement in Dance’ at this year’s UK Theatre Awards. The winners for the UK Theatre Awards will be announced on Sunday 9 October as part of a prestigious ceremony held at London's historic Guildhall.

Contemporary dance theatre piece Coal by Gary Clarke Company was initially created as an experimental pilot piece receiving its first preview at Cast in 2015 before returning to the theatre as part of its first national tour in March 2016.

Northern Ballet is also nominated for Cathy Marston’s Jane Eyre which made its world premiere performance sell-out crowds here in May.

Since the theatre’s opening in 2013 Cast has experienced a 140% increase in tickets sold for dance with hundreds of dancers gracing its stages from the best touring dance companies to young dancers from numerous local dance schools.

This news is especially exciting as we look ahead to May when we will welcome back Northern Ballet with the world premiere of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas based on John Boyne’s heartbreaking novel.
