A new flagship partnership between English Touring Theatre and Cast, Doncaster’s landmark theatre, will bring a major revival of Terence Rattigan’s comedy hit French Without Tears (18 – 22 Oct) to South Yorkshire.
The play follows a group of eager young men spending the summer on the French coast learning the local lingo. However, their studies are soon interrupted by arrival of the beautiful Diana Lake. Now the boys have to learn a whole new language: girls. It seems simple, at first. Kit loves Diana and she loves him… and Bill. Oh, and Alan too, of course. But mischief, mayhem and misplaced affections quickly follow.
Terence Rattigan is one of the most popular English playwrights of the 20th Century, best known for The Deep Blue Sea and The Winslow Boy. French Without Tears was Rattigan’s first smash-hit success and this new English Touring Theatre revival has ran to sold-out audiences at Orange Tree Theatre in London this summer.
English Touring Theatre is one of the UK’s most successful touring companies, widely regarded as England’s national theatre of touring. French Without Tears marks the start of a new 3-year partnership between English Touring Theatre, Cast in Doncaster and eight other venues that aims to bring high quality classic dramas to new audiences across the UK.
Mathew Russell, Cast’s interim Executive Director said:
'We’re delighted be working with English Touring Theatre to bring more high-quality drama to Doncaster audiences over the next three years. It’s a testament to the ongoing success of Cast that we continue to attract the UK's most high-profile national touring companies and this exciting partnership is a major coup for the theatre.'
Tickets for French Without Tears (18-22 Oct) are on sale, available from Box Office on 10302 303 959 or online here.
