CAST RAISES THOUSANDS IN CHRISTMAS APPEAL

Last week hundreds of generous pantomime spectators answered Cast’s Christmas and New Year appeal raising £1344 in support of the charity’s work with local people. Thanks to Arts Council England’s Catalyst programme, this will now be matched pound for pound bringing the total amount raised to an amazing £2688.

Cast is a registered charity, which aims to make great art and culture available to everyone in Doncaster and further afield. Festive donations raised benefit tens of thousands of people each year by strengthening relationships with Doncaster’s Deaf community, supporting spectacular free outdoor events like Clash of Drums and providing bursaries for young people to take part in Cast Youth Theatre and other courses.

Cast’s 2016 pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk was the UK’s first mainstream pantomime production to be fully integrated with British Sign Language, in response to the size of Doncaster’s Deaf community. The charity today announces that its Christmas 2017 pantomime Beauty and the Beast will also feature an integrated signer so that more families can continue to enjoy a magical trip to the theatre together.

Mathew Russell, Cast’s interim Executive Director said: ‘Throughout the year visitors often tell us what a transformational asset for the town Cast is, and never is that more so than during our annual pantomime, a magical highlight of the year. Thanks to this unprecedented and overwhelming response, these vital funds will go towards helping to open up fantastic cultural experiences to everyone. It is heartwarming to say that for the people of Doncaster, the magic of Christmas is well and truly alive.'
