Cast, Doncaster’s flagship theatre, is to launch a new weekly Youth Theatre placing children and young people at the centre of its work. The initiative will offer local children and young people the opportunity to develop their performance skills in Cast’s state-of-the-art theatre spaces as well as making new friends in a fun and accessible environment.
Set to launch in January 2017, significant numbers of Doncaster children and young people will have the opportunity to be part of the Youth Theatre. Initially there will be three Youth Theatre groups: Little Lights for 8 to 11 year olds, Spotlights for 11-14 year olds and Flood Lights for 14-16 year olds. Cast Youth Theatre will cost £50 per 10-week term with bursaries and siblings discounts available to enable as many local children as possible can participate.
Cast will be running a series of workshops to offer a taste of what to expect on Wednesday 30 November and Wednesday 14 December (11-14 year olds) and Saturday 10 December (8–11 year olds and 14–16 year olds). Tickets for the taster sessions are free but places need to be reserved through the box office or online at castindoncaster.com.
Cast’s Head of Participation Sarah Clough will be leading this exciting project. She commented:
‘It’s a great opportunity for young people across the borough to meet new people from different backgrounds, broaden their horizons and grow in confidence. We’re opening this Youth Theatre up to everyone and aim to provide a really positive, enjoyable and rewarding arts experience for our local children and young people.’
