What started in 2017 as a dose of Christmas cheer for local hospital patients at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals has now become an annual treat reaching hundreds of families who are unable to see the pantomime here at Cast.
Thanks to funding from Doncaster Council's Short Breaks Panel, we have rigged our Main Space with cameras which we operate via remote control. We then stream the footage to YouTube with a secure link, which is sent to vulnerable and poorly people all over the borough.
Since starting our live stream, we've spread festive goodwill to Children’s and Elderly Care wards, Adult Mental Health Services, Social Housing schemes, refuges for those who experience gender based violence, care homes, pupil referral units and many many more.
The Christmas period can be challenging for lots of people meaning they can miss out on festive happenings. By bringing panto to the people through their screens we're hoping to deliver seasonal cheer to local people.
We're always amazed by how many people get involved in the show, just like they were there in the theatre. We also make sure there's a special shout out from the cast on stage so that the audience.
'What a fantastic idea to do this as we would have been unable to see an actual showing and it was actually like being at a theatre. Easy to set up and thoroughly enjoyed by our individuals here at Stainforth Smile. We are a Day Centre For adults with Learning Disabilites and Elderly people. We are more than interested in any future plans you have following on from this. Thanking you for doing this and being inclusive of everyone.'
- Lorayne Shaw, Stainforth Smile
The magic of a Christmas pantomime is something everyone deserves to experience, so if you can’t get to the pantomime, then we will bring the pantomime to you! Live-streaming is just one of the ways Cast is reaching out to local people, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this to local people free of charge.
